About theater

The JK Tyl Theatre is the largest professional theatre and, at the same time, one of the most important cultural centres in the Pilsen region. It consists of four artistic companies - opera, drama, musical and ballet performing at three venues – in the historic building of the Grand Theatre, and on the New Stage and Black Box stages located in the modern building of the New Theatre. The repertory offers classical Czech and international productions, innovative dramaturgy and contemporary works. The programme also includes both grand and chamber concerts and less formal events. The high artistic level of the Theatre is evidenced not only by regularly awarded artists, received acclaim and interest from various domestic and foreign festivals, but also by the number of renowned Czech and foreign guest directors. The director and tutor, Martin Otava, has been the head of the Theatre since 2014.
